my hp laptop win 8.1 only opens up a dark grey screen almost blaclk and I can't do anything , the lights are on , in the keyboard . It come on long enough for me to sign in then goes to the dark screen .It is a brand nbew computer I got after christmas .worked fine until now .

That sounds like you have a laptop with a faulty back light unit - RMA the laptop under warranty

Thanks uslysses . Yes i purchased an extended warranty for this also .at one point i was able to open task manager and got on for a min. but now can't even do that . Thanks again from Snurdy
