old tv + rf modulator + dvd / vhs recorder

Not sure if this is right forum = trying to connect toshiba dvd / vhs recorder to cable box to tv with coaxial output. Had to change cable box to hd (tv is not hd) because old box was dropping channels and pixelating. Now I could watch tv but menu for dvd won't show up. I reconfigure cables and I could get dvd menu but no picture it flashes no signal. Please help. THX

The RF out of the cable box goes to the RF in on the DVD/VHS. The RF out of that goes to the TV right?
Make sure that the RF output of the cable box and VHS/DVD are both on the same channel (usually chan 3 or 4). Make sure that the tuner in the VHS/DVD is set to that channel too.
