S6 Edge Plus taking forever in 'wiping cache partition'.

Attempted to wipe cache partition in recovery mode, but my S6 has been displaying "Wiping cache" for several hours now. Should it ever take this long ? The cache has not been wiped before during the entire life of the device's operation - over 2 and a half years.

Would like to know what to do at this point. Let it be and see if it completes the operation ? Is there a way to safely exit this situation, and reboot the device so it will operate normally ?
 
It should not take a long time. Not at all. It sounds like either you have a software problem (and may need to do a full "Hard Reset" which will wipe all data), there is a bad app, virus or malware that is prohibiting that from completing. Which would have to be removed from the device. Or there is a hardware problem.

To check for any of it you are going to have to restart the device first. Then see if it will load normally or not. If it won't, try starting up in "Safe Mode" and see if it loads that way. If it does, then the problem is the bad app, virus, malware, etc. that needs removing. If it still won't load in "Safe Mode" then you either need to "Hard Reset" or possibly have it repaired for any hardware problems.

To get into "Safe Mode" please do the following.

1. First turn off the phone.

2. Next press and hold "Power" until you see the manufacturers logo on the screen, then release the power button.

3. "Quickly" press "Volume Down" and hold it for few seconds until you see the message "Safe mode: ON" or something similar.

4. If you wanted disable it, simply repeat the steps above, and you should see "Safe Mode: OFF" rather than on.
