HAHAHAHA!, But this isn't written very well. No description of the device, or an explanation of why the VP would think it was something harmful. Also it said that they talked to the kid then decided to evac the school. So what the heck did they say and all!?

[citation][nom]Article[/nom]the student will not be prosecuted, but authorities recommended that he and his parents get counseling. [/citation]
...
They should sue. Kid brings technology into a tech school, big surprise.
They were harassed in my opinion (police tell me they want to check my place though I was doing nothing wrong, I tell them to shove their fists up their anus'), and someone needs a good kick in the balls from this.

WTH?
Empty Gatorade bottle + some wires + old circuit boards = Bomb?
i wonder what would happen if he tried bringing that to the airport..

Meet officer Bing, we call 'em The Search Engine

So why exactly did they recommend counseling for the student and his family?
I think the idiot principle (at a tech school no less) is jealous that the 11yo students are smarter than him/her.

America is seriously turning (more) into a police state when an empty Gatorade bottle with a few wires attached prompts police raids and investigations :pfff:

I have searched on this story, with zero results of photos of the project. Does anyone own a camera these days? I would think that some news organization by now would be showing photos and videos of this event. "School Exavcuated" "Fire Department x-ray the device", "search student's home" ... It is like big news, with zero coverage.

It seems to me that if the public ever saw the photos of the device, the school officials and fire department would laughed out of town.

It would be great to see a follow up to this story with photos and video.

Because something has a few wire doesnt mean its a f****** bomb. I though that was obvious. With todays dumb ass cops in remote location thinking Al-Qaeda is after their 20k people town, this is bound to happen. They are as bad as the over zealous TSA goons.

According Sign On San Diego, the student will not be prosecuted, but authorities recommended that he and his parents get counseling. The student violated school policies, but there was no criminal intent, Luque said.

Alright so doing your homework is against the schools policies? Or they're of the belief that it herisy to detect movement with something other then your eyes? And what did the parents do wrong in all of this to need councelling? OMFG I'm glad I'm not American!

The Authorities recommend the parents and student get conseling? What? I think its the other way around and the authorities and school should get conseling. **ck the authorities, they and the school officials over reacted.

[citation][nom]montezuma[/nom]I think the authorities need counseling. Tell people they need mental assistance when they did nothing wrong is, well, wrong.[/citation]

[citation][nom]sdlfkj2lkjs[/nom]Counseling? Its a technology school and they think he needs counseling for taking the initiative to experiment in technical projects? They should be praising his initiative. This world is going to hell fast.[/citation]

You both got it right. What a slap in the face insult this is. He did nothing wrong but because the school, a school that is tech oriented, knows nothing, apparently less than the students who go there, and the authorities are called out who have no idea what to except he and the his family should seek counseling. How typical now a days. OH, I see we have nothing wrong with initiative, but if we, due to lack of knowledge, understanding and plain common sense, do not know what it is; we are going to automatically assume your up to no good and when we find out we were wrong and you did nothing wrong well, instead of apologizing, we still want you to seek counseling. Why? Because we feel that since we had to go through all this and nothing was amiss we still feel that we should at least put some kind of bad light on you.

If I may, the original story was awkwardly worded where mentioning the counseling. The boy "was very shaken by the whole situation, as were his parents." I think that's why counseling was recommended, not because he was ambitious with some old radio parts.
However I really do have to agree with the assessment of the VP. Perhaps the kid can build something to help him extract his head from betwixt his cheeks.

Hey I got this box. And it has these wires and a power source connected to a big circuit board.Oh and has some small different colored led lights. One red, one blue and one yellow. Wait a minute I think its a bomb!............OH! Wait its just my computer.

roflmgdmfao couldn't have said it better myself.

I don't understand why it is recommended that they seek councilling. They brought a freaking science project to the school. If anything, I think that the teacher should get councilling for her extreme paranoia. She could have simply asked the student what it was rather than completely freaking out from just looking at the thing....
