HAHAHAHA!, But this isn't written very well. No description of the device, or an explanation of why the VP would think it was something harmful. Also it said that they talked to the kid then decided to evac the school. So what the heck did they say and all!?

They were harassed in my opinion (police tell me they want to check my place though I was doing nothing wrong, I tell them to shove their fists up their anus'), and someone needs a good kick in the balls from this.

I think the idiot principle (at a tech school no less) is jealous that the 11yo students are smarter than him/her.

I have searched on this story, with zero results of photos of the project. Does anyone own a camera these days? I would think that some news organization by now would be showing photos and videos of this event. "School Exavcuated" "Fire Department x-ray the device", "search student's home" ... It is like big news, with zero coverage.

It seems to me that if the public ever saw the photos of the device, the school officials and fire department would laughed out of town.

It would be great to see a follow up to this story with photos and video.

You both got it right. What a slap in the face insult this is. He did nothing wrong but because the school, a school that is tech oriented, knows nothing, apparently less than the students who go there, and the authorities are called out who have no idea what to except he and the his family should seek counseling. How typical now a days. OH, I see we have nothing wrong with initiative, but if we, due to lack of knowledge, understanding and plain common sense, do not know what it is; we are going to automatically assume your up to no good and when we find out we were wrong and you did nothing wrong well, instead of apologizing, we still want you to seek counseling. Why? Because we feel that since we had to go through all this and nothing was amiss we still feel that we should at least put some kind of bad light on you.

If I may, the original story was awkwardly worded where mentioning the counseling. The boy "was very shaken by the whole situation, as were his parents." I think that's why counseling was recommended, not because he was ambitious with some old radio parts.
However I really do have to agree with the assessment of the VP. Perhaps the kid can build something to help him extract his head from betwixt his cheeks.

I don't understand why it is recommended that they seek councilling. They brought a freaking science project to the school. If anything, I think that the teacher should get councilling for her extreme paranoia. She could have simply asked the student what it was rather than completely freaking out from just looking at the thing....
