Toshiba Satellite keyboard and touchpad don't work

Hello,

Strange problem, I wonder if any of you have come across this. I've got a friend with a Toshiba L305D-S5934. Occasionally the touchpad and keyboard become completely inoperable while the laptop is in use (a USB mouse will work, however). Oddly enough though, if you let the laptop hibernate, after it "thaws" the keyboard works again.

Laptop has been restored to a previous save, no dice. Device drivers have been replaced and reinstalled, registry has been cleaned... I'm stumped and looking to avoid completely reinstalling Vista.

Thoughts?

i have a toshiba satellite E45t-B4300. Had the same problem with the touch pad not working.only worked when i use a mouse. on your keypad..there's F1-F10 button, to unlock the touchpad, mines was F5. hope this helps.

I have a Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4300 laptop and had keyboard and touchpad problems identical to everyone else after the recent system update. I called Toshiba customer support which provided no help so I did some Googling and ended up doing a system restore to before the update. That fixed my keyboard problem but now my laptop is having an array of troubling issues. First of all, Chrome will not open by clicking on the icon, but it will open if I right click and select 'New window'. Secondly, and most troubling, is that no Microsoft Office applications will open. Also, my F keys only work if I press the Fn key while pressing them now. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can fix this? Classes start tomorrow for me and this is very concerning.

thanks lun it works but every time i use my laptop (Toshiba satellite Model: C660D) i have to repeat the process, is there a permanent solution. and what is causing the problem. also i have experienced this for over 4 weeks a while back i restored my laptop to factory default and the problem was gone but in 2 weeks time it returned 🙁
WHY!!!!! it's so frustrating.

Hello, it is a problem with the F5 key - switch off, reboot, press F5 should work

1- Turn off computer, disconnect the power cord, remove the battery.
2- Press the Power On button for 10 seconds
3- Replace battery and/or connect power cord.
4- Turn On computer + immediately press F2 key repeatedly
5- Press F9 then press Enter
6- Press F10 then press Enter

I too have a problem with a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It is a slightly different model. (L305D-S5974)

I was in the process of projecting the display onto a wide screen tv. I hit the windows option "Display from Projector only". When I did that I couldn't see the mouse anymore on the screen. Looked on the widescreen tv and no mouse either. tried a hard reboot. And like you only way the pointer will work is with an external mouse. Touch pad don't work anymore.

I tried: Scan Disk option, Repairing Driver, Reinstalling Driver, Restore point also, Device hardware restore under F8 Diagnostic Tools and finally factory restore since I had no data i cared about. After it restored to factory out of box. Touch pad still didn't work. So I'm in the same boot now. Still looking for a solution. Berly started today 7/3/2012. I have Windows 7 though.

Did you ever find a solution to the mouse pad issue? Noticed you voiced your complaint in 2010.

There is a pinhole on back of base of laptop. Use small object like staple to reset and the keyboard began working.

I have face the same problem in Toshiba satellite pro A300. I install windows 7 and update the windows first time and turn off automatic update it solve the problem for me. the following driver were updated:

Toshiba x86 ACPI-Compliment value added logical and general purpose devices
Intel corporation display-mobile intel(R) 965 Express chipset family
o2micro- sciadapter-02Micro Integrated MS/MSPRO controller
windows update agent

Try FN and f5 keys at same time

FN and f5 keys were an immediate fix on my Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283.

Being such an old post, it's really wonderful that one can still google and find something so relevant these years later. Aren't search engines great??

I have a Toshiba Satellite S55. The keyboard became unresponsive and the two track pad buttons quit working. This solution worked for me as well. Thank you!

for touchpad issue

press F5 key
if it did not work
press and hold F5 key
if still not work
FN + F5 key
if still not work check the driver for the touchpad
go to control panel
Hard ware and sounds
and then click on device manager
then click the mice and other pointing devices
then checked if you see any unusual symbol on the right side of the driver name
if there is unusual symbol, right click on the driver name the select uninstall
then on the left upper part of your screen
click on action
then select scan for hardware changes
then checked if your touch pad is now working
if it still did not work
shutdown the laptop
before turning it on press and hold the F2 key
or if you see the toshiba logo screen, rapidly press the F2
then if you see the system date and time
just press F9 then choose yes
after that press F10 then choose save and exit
after that checked the laptop touchpad if still did not work contact toshiba tech support

I did this and now all my documents/ music etc have disappeared!! What have I done? Can I restore them?

Toshiba satelitte c50d
Livesystem Mint 18.
Start with second choise.
Mouse and Keyboard works fine.
After reboot no more screen.
All Power off. Accu pull.
System go to bios. F9, F10
all works.
