I have read another post about an acer aspire slot and it looks sort of similar. And according to that post it could be a M.sata connection. I am wondering if that is the same for this laptop or if it is something else. I just noticed it when I was installing a new CPU and RAM into the board and thought it might be a nice upgrade for my bro in the future if it is. Here is some pics of the slot and the board:

In advance any help is appreciated, and even though I am not the best with laptops everything is a learning experience.

Solution
Repair manual says Mini Card connector(JP17), no further explanation given and I couldn't find any other info online.
Acer models that came after this laptop have 2x Mini PCIe slots and no mSATA yet, so I am assuming it's a mini PCIe slot (for wifi cards or compatible other hardware) which is not compatible with an mSATA SSD, sorry for the bad news.

Please not so fast to the shopping spree! let me confirm first, might be just a second Wifi slot as Mini PCIe interface which was newer interface for wifi cards at the time your laptop was manufactured, as the Wifi card already installed on your laptop is attached to the older Mini PCI interface.
