This internet filter garbage will never happen so stop worrying about it,too bloody hard to implement and will cause too much of a performance penalty on internet speeds to be viable. As far as the waste of money is concerned that doesnt really matter either as lets face it a good 60 percent of taxpayers money in most governments is pi$$ed against the wall regardless.

What is this garbage about gun rights? It has zero and f@#$k all to do with the subject but since its been mentioned I'll clarify it anyway. Any Australian has the right to own a firearm/s. Years ago after the Port Arthur massacre restrictions were put in place concerning acreage signovoer to aquire firearms but that has been amended since (in west aust anyway). We have probably the sainest gun laws around. To legally own a firearm you have to meet the following criteria.

1. Have a clean criminal record.

2. Have a recognised reason or need to own and use that firearm, this is at the discretion of local cops. Can include sporting farming, pretty much bloody anything.

3. Store the weapon in an approved gun cabinet.

Take this little story as an example of how reasonable our firearm laws are. Recently went to the cop shop and enquired about adding a 4/10 shotty to my liscence. Copper asked what I needed the weapon for. I replied that I had a tiger snake problem around my house due to a dam located within 50 metres of my house and I needed a scattergun my wife could handle as I work away alot. Copper replied no you dont have a tigersnake problem you have parrot problem. I replied what the f@#$%k noooo snake problem! Copper replied no tigers are protected you sir have a parrot problem, I replied fair enough!

Its true we arent allowed semi autos anymore but really what practical benefit is a semi auto to a farmer or sport shooter anyway?? If it takes more than one round to put something down your using the wrong rifle, if you need more than one round you need to learn to aim.

Im in no way advocating storming the White House but your logic regarding the bold part of your arguement is extremely flawed. There are roughly 330million Americans. Lets say that half of them are under 18 and the other half all have weapons. Now your trying to say that if every American with weapons stormed the White house(Thats roughly 160million armed citizens) that these mere thousands in the Military and Police could contain them? We have the Bill of Rights here in America. I was taught there is a reason that its the second amendment allows the citizen to keep and bear arms. The founders of my country thought that second only to being able to speak your mind is the ability to defend your life and liberty. And at the time it was written, these were put in place to protect the citizen above all, from the government.

Given what I bounced into surfing conversations about what the left wants to do here in the US we should all be very afraid.

When the subject of implementing all of the taxes and socialist plans and the potential for violent resistance or even open rebellion was discussed the solution offered was that "they'd just release a virus".

In the resultant panic they would send police and CDC people door to door. If you refused to let the police to search your home for firearms and other "illicit items" then you wouldn't get the vaccine for the plague.

It seems that there are people who think guns make you safe. Well they don't, there is no weapon that will anytime. Rights create safety, all off society agreeing that you as a person have rights. Taking away freedom of choice, freedom of information is something that makes us unsafe. Someone (and thats not just in Australia) thinking that the END justifies the MEANS (...previous US governement...)

For those that do not want to live according to those rules (criminals) only a small portion of society should be allowed to use weapons and that by strict controls. Their rights should be clipped because of their right to use violence.

Criminals will always get a weapon, but if you are not allowed to have one they will stand out of the crowd. Less weapons in a society also means by definition it is more difficult to get your hands on one. It does not mean it will be 100% safe but it will mean less deaths for certain (just look up the statistics).
