And is it safe to just use Windows 10's Windows Defender? Or Windows Defender + Malwarebytes scanner?

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 for MANY years, moved to Windows Defender on Windows 8 and 8.1.

Now that I have Windows 10 on both pcs, I use Windows Defender as well + Malware Bytes (free trail version) as a scanner.

I like Windows Defender for being extremely light wait, non add and not interfering. I'd like to trust Microsoft in combination with their auto-updates that they know what they are doing.

I found some material online:
http://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-free-antivirus-software-for-pc/
And other material suggesting Windows Defender in Windows 10 is good enough:

Like I said I use Defender + Malware Bytes as a scanner only (since it's free), as recommended by MB users. I found both software to be light weight performance wise - since Gaming Performance is my #1 concern.

Windows Defender is fine. I use Windows 7 with MSE. and its lightweight, along with malwarebytes/superantispyware as on demand scanners.

Third party program wise. there is Bitdefender which is another lightweight AV that is good, though i prefer MSE.

Thanks for the info, for now that's what I am doing, using Windows 10 Defender (always active)+ Malwarebytes (free trail) as scanner, keeps them both up to date and scans occasionally.

Will appreciate more opinions and advice. Thanks!
