Hello Tom's Hardware community, I have come to a tough decision between 2 laptops that will primarily be used for gaming.
The first is a Dell Ultrabook 6430U with 8g of ram, a 3rd gen quad core (8 thread) i7 processor @ 2.6ghz, a 128gb ssd, and a 14" HD LED display. It does not have a dedicated graphics card so I would be using the integrated HD 4000 that is in the i7.
The second option has upgraded ram with 16gb, an Nvidia Quadro 3700fx 1gb graphics card, a 250gb 7200rpm hdd, a 17.3" 1920x1200 display, but a Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 processor at 3.06ghz yet only 2 cores. (It's also got a backlit keyboard)
So, which option do you guys recommend: More graphics power, ram and a better screen resolution yet only 2 cores? Or better cpu power with 4 cores (hyperthreaded) and the speed of an SSD?
This will be primarily used for gaming and I am wondering whether or not 2 cores is enough for that. I am definitely not looking to run modern games at max settings, I would be happy with medium settings at 30 fps. The reason I am looking for a laptop is for when I go on vacation and also when I visit family which lasts for up to a month sometimes. It is only really light gaming on this thing.
Thanks for any help and advice!
