Laptop screen black

Hi,
Have just gone to use my laptop and when I press the power button the fan starts up but the screen stays black. Power button is on. Iv tried removing battery and holding down the power button to drain charge but nothing is working. Any ideas?

Can you connect it to another monitor to see if everything else works and if it's just the screen
