No sound through monitor

I connected an eMachines monitor cable box using HDMI-VGA lead. There a 3.5mm audio jack on the monitor. Tried aux speakers, even my bass amp, but still no sound. Any tips?

I assume you're running HDMI out from your system to VGA on the monitor?

Which HDMI-VGA cable are you using??

VGA cannot receive audio, and you'll need to run an Aux cable from the output (motherboard) to the monitor via the 3.5mm jack

Cheapie Wal-Mart connector. The cable box is one of the small Cisco boxes with no audio outs. Pretty much outta there, huh?

I'd have to see the specific cable.

Usually if you have a respectable HDMI to VGA, the cable wll carry the Audio from HDMI, and split off to an Aux output for the monitor.
