Old dvds in a blu Ray player not giving any sound, although blu Ray dvds work fine

I have a problem with my Sony blu ray player. It plays fine with a blu Ray DVD, but there is no sound from an old non-blu ray disc. I had no problems previously, we’ve had this setup for the years, the DVDs used to play just fine, this problem just started. The only thing I can think is my child somehow changed the settings while clicking around with the remote.
Again, blu Ray DVDs play fine. Non blu Ray I have picture but no sound. Help?
