PC won't display properly on HDTV

I'm trying to find the right monitor resolution for my PC, using a small HDTV via VGA cable. It's a 19" Dynex TV. I currently use it for my MacBook, via HDMI, and everything is fine. When I had the PC hooked up to a different TV, the resolution expanded to the entire screen. Unfortunately I can't remember what the settings were. Right now, the screen resolution will only work on 1024x768. Any other setting gives me the "Video mode not supported" on my TV.

You need to post the exact model of the TV to know what the native resolution is, or you can just check what the resolution it has on the Mac system. You can also check for a newer video driver on the computer, maybe something there is causing issues.

Sorry. It's a Dynex LCD 19-09 http://www.dynexproducts.com/products/televisions/DX-LCD19-09.html

Resolution is 1440x900. Unfortunately this isn't a possible resolution in settings; I can't choose it.

An update: I've been using it with the black bars on the side and dealing with it. I tried to launch a new game I downloaded (Star Wars Old Republic), and upon launch, it tried to change the resolution. From then on I got the "MODE NOT SUPPORTED" message from my TV, and trying to restart does nothing. I can start in safe mode, but within safe mode I cannot change my resolution.

UPDATE 2: I successfully was able to reboot into normal mode and now can see my screen. However, I still have the black bars, I'm unable to change my monitor properties or drivers within the Screen Resolution advanced settings. I don't want to launch any games for fear of getting the same issue. Please help.

UPDATE 3: I just restarted my computer again, and it's back to "MODE NOT SUPPORTED"
