Video cassette to DVD or MP3

My dad recently found some old video cassettes and wants to convert them. He used a Sony SteadyShot DCR-TRV340 to record. About a 10 year old camera. It used a cassette to record and now he wants to convert it so he can put it on DVDs/MP3. How can he do this?

I am having the same dilemma......I have weddings I would like to burn to a CD/DVD, but the Pixela software is not compatible with my new computer......hope we get answers soon!!

If I am not mistaken the Sony SteadyShot DCR-TRV340 uses a Hi8 tape which is much smaller than a VHS tape but larger than a Mini-DV tape. Link to camera manual: http/www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRTRV340.pdf
The easiest way to capture video from the camera is to connect the camera to the computer via a firewire cable. You will need a firewire port on the computer to do this. You can use Windows Live Moviemaker to capture video from the camera and Windows DVD Maker to burn the DVD. Once you have the footage on the computer you can convert it to mp3 with a free converter like MPEG_Streamclip - http/www.squared5.com/
