Windows seems to be unable to format a USB memory drive. After a lot of testing I found this to work in most cases.

When you try to format a USB memory stick you get a message saying "The disk is write protected"This also happens when you do this via
My Computer (right-click)
Manage->Disk Management
Select your USB device and try and format: You get a message saying
"The operation did not complete because the media is write protected".

Think about Micro Adapters. They have this bright-yellow, human skin color, thingy there with a text "Lock" When it's up, then it's unlocked, when it's down, then its write-protected. USBs are different.

Open -> Command Prompt
Click -> Run as Administrator
Type in the command -> attrib -r x:\*.*
X is your USB Drive letter.

In my case I had a micro SD card with no write protect switches.

This is write-protected version, just look at Lock tezxt and there is a switch.

for your USB device. ie were you able to format it etc.
I appreciate that adapter have switches but USB devices do not have write protect switches in most cases ( a few ones do).
