ASUS N56V8 crashed and wont boot up, but takes a charge.

I have an ASUS N56V that I've had for about 5 years now and I use it while I'm on the go for gaming and 3D renders with Blender. Recently as I was executing a render the laptop crashed and hasn't successfully booted up since.

The curious thing is that it takes a charge and the charging indicator works perfectly fine. I've removed the battery and held the power button to clear any leftover charge and that hasn't yielded any fruitful results. When I press the power button the LED on the front next to the light bulb icon flashes and then the charging indicator goes unresponsive until I remove the battery or let it sit.

It seems like the switch is shorting when I press it but I'm asking for any second opinions or suggestions for how to repair it. Thanks!

Hi, I have a 4 year old ASUS N56V8 that I use on the go for gaming, video/photo editing, and 3D modeling and animation in Blender. The other night as I was rendering a project it crashed and hasn't booted back up since.

I've reseated the ram and held down the power button without a battery or charger connected and it powers on the battery light after that. However when I go to boot it up the LED with the light bulb icon (sorry I don't know what this light actually means) flashes on and then the battery light turns off. I opened it up and didn't notice any scorching or blown caps so I don't think there was any serious overheating.

I appreciate any help you have to offer. I'm out of town for the holiday so I'm trying to finish a couple of side projects before I head back for the work week.
