Hello,

My # one key came off of my Asus X401A1 laptop, and i'm having trouble putting it back on. i've looked everywhere I can think of for help, bUT no luck.
Some websites haven't even heard of my laptops model number(X401A1)
Can anyone help me figure this out? It's driving me crazy - I need my one key back on my laptop.

Also, what series is my laptop/how can I find out what series it is? The model number of the laptop is X401A1.

Also, if the key can't be put back on, is there a way to get the key to work again, without putting the cap back on? The little rubber thing is still attached to the keyboard, but not the hinges or the cap.

(My little brother decided it was a good idea to take the key off)

Thank you in advance!

Solution
warranty is usually 1year unless you buy the extended warranty which is usually 2 to 3yrs. I did that link to show that a site does know about your laptop model.

I think for most laptops their keyboards have a plastic tab that attaches the key to the membrane that depresses when you press on it. When it breaks I don't think there is a way to reattach it other than to get creative and glue it back on or something similar.

You have to replace they keyboard in order to solve the issue.

Keyboards are generally not difficult to replace. Find out if it's under warranty so you can get a replacement. If not, you'll have to buy a keyboard.

How do I find out if my laptop is still under warranty? Also, it's one key on my laptop. I'm not going to pay 30 bucks on a new keyboard over one bad key. If I would buy a new keyboard, I would most probably end up killing the entire laptop itself. Thanks for your input though!

What could I possibly do to get the key back on "creatively"?
Thanks for the reply!

As long as you put just a little glue, the membrane head that depresses should be able to support the plastic key cap and pop back up when you press down. I would suggest waiting until it is fully dry so that the glue doesn't start sticking to the rest of the membrane.

Is there a certain type of glue you would recommend?
Also, what if the pieces under the cap are damaged? is there a way to work around that problem?
Thank you so much for your input!

There's a square piece and a circular piece. The circular piece has pings in the middle of it on each side.

The two pieces aren't connected. They are two separate pieces now.

yes. what do I do to put the key back on my keyboard, please? The key goes on, but it fits loosely and comes off fairly easily, which isn't supposed to happen. Should I get a key from one of those websites where I can buy new keys? Replacing the entire keyboard seems like a waste of money if I can repair the keyboard with just buying a replacement key.

What do you think I should do?
Buy a new keyboard and have a professional put a new keyboard in or just buy a new key and replace it myself carefully?
Thanks for your input!

The "scissor frame" are 2 pieces put together, creating 1 piece, that's supposed to pop the key back up when it's pressed. However, I am not sure how to put the frame on the computer keyboard itself. When I put the frame on, and the key on top of that, I hear a snap. The problem is, the key is loose and easily comes off. Also, when the key cap is on, with the frame under it, sometimes the key pressed (example key "a") doesn't show up on the computer.

What should my next plan of action be for my keyboard dilemma?

Thank you!
