Not able to use Xbox 360 controller for windows in new USB port

I have been using my Xbox 360 controller for windows perfectly for the past few months but I decided I wanted to use a different USB port on my laptop because the USB port I have been using was recently damaged. Now the computer is constantly connecting and reconnecting the controller because of the damage in the USB port. I have all the necessary drivers installed but for whatever reason my laptop wont connect to the Xbox 360 controller in a different USB port. The wireless dongle is recieving power for the port though therefore the new USB port works. How do I fix this issue? Thank you for your time.

Try to remove the driver and reinstall it. You may want to consider attaching the controller directly to a port on the laptop, even if you need to disconnect the dongle temporarily while you game.

Were you using the dongle on the now-broken USB port with the controller? Or were you connecting the controller directly to the now-broken port?

I have a wireless Xbox controller so I am unaware of any way to directly connect the Xbox controller to the laptop. The controller does not connect without the single. I was using it in the broken USB port.

I'll rephrase: Try connecting the USB receiver for the controller directly to a port on the laptop. If your USB hub is using the only remaining USB port, disconnect it to connect the Xbox controller's USB dongle/receiver to the laptop's port, then see what happens (assuming you haven't already tried this).

Just so we're clear: Is the controller connecting via wireless USB, or by a Bluetooth USB dongle?
