Can I connect both HDMI and component cables

Please can I connect both HDMI and component cables at the same time?

This depends on the components. DirecTV receivers allow simultaneous HDMI and Component operation. Dish Network does not. The only way to know is to try it.

Most HD components will automatically shut off the component output when the HDMI is used. Also bluray players made recently do not output HD at all through component output.
