I'm gonna have to go in a bit of detail here so please hang on:
I have a 2 years old Acer E5-572G 525V. The laptop was quite a bang for the buck in my limited budget and actually performed better than I expected it to. Everything was good...
Then around 4 months back I decided to add another 8 gigs of RAM to the already existing 4 GB. I couldn't find the exact match for the present stick ( Kingston ACR16D3LS1KNG/4G ) and so I decided to go for the next nearest thing I could find ( Kingston KVR16LS11/8 ). They were nearly identical except for the different capacities i.e. 4 and 8 gigs, something I learnt later on I shouldn't have done.
Anyway, I put in the new stick and the laptop fired up just fine, a couple days went by and it was still working fine but then it suddenly crashed citing a BSOD. This started happening too often and so I ran a full Memtest86 test which turned up 0 errors. Did all the windows and driver updates, tried some other things off of the internet but noting helped, fed up, I finally decided to install some custom BIOS and tinker around. At first I changed the settings according to what the dev of the BIOS stated, the BSOD frequency dropped but they didn't stop altogether so then I changed some more things based on whatever sense I could make of things, keeping in mind not to change the things which could have resulted in serious repercussions.
I cant remember what things I changed exactly but whatever it was fixed the BSODs. I carried on for some time but realized that I wasn't getting as much of a performance boost as I should have instead, the performance actually dropped. Games that ran just fine before were now lagging every now and then, everytime I open the task manager, my CPU's at 100%.
So at last I decided to revert to the default BIOS, thinking it might just solve everything. As of now, the BSODs are fixed but the performance still sucks, even games like dead cells (great game btw) which are not all that demanding lag often whereas I remember running battlefield 1 at medium settings without any lag back when it had 4 gigs.
I would really appreciate any help.

what is the cpu/gpu/ram usage during the game? what are the cpu/gpu temp?

The CPU usage is almost always at 100% whenever the lag happens, the GPU usage is about what I would expect it to be under the circumstances. I haven't checked the exact temp. readings but the laptop does get hot and the fans start spinning crazy whenever this happens.

Something else that might interest you is that I played the game today for around 40 mins and it ran as smooth as it can the whole time, the temps remained moderate too.
The CPU usage though spiked a bit when I suddenly minimized the game to open the task manager.

Immediately after minimizing
A few seconds later
With the game open in the BG 1
With the game open in the BG 2

Also, its not just during games, even simple tasks like switching between tabs and opening the file explorer feel laggy at times. The audio cracks momentarily sometimes when I'm playing a video and try to open any other application.
I have noticed this mostly happens when I have Firefox opened but wouldn't blame it entirely on that since I have also noticed it without Firefox running.
