Asus G75VX powers off at random times through out the week. Also, the computer will not boot unless it is attached to an external monitor. Once it has booted, I can disconnect the external monitor and the internal display now works.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi,

It maybe related to the graphics card of your laptop which causes this issues.
- Do a clean install of the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to check Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's the link: nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do observe your laptop again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- Do also make sure that the latest BIOS Version is installed.

Sorry for the extremely late response.
Asus has a BIOS update from 2013. Downloaded that to a USB and went to "flash" under BIOS and now it works. Takes longer than it should because I must select the screen option, but hey, my laptop is completely portable again! :D
